DATMO 2009 Round 1 Annotated Game

22nd August 2009 - The first round of the Dato'Arthur Tan Malaysian Open (DATMO) 2009 start this morning at 9.am . For round 1 result, click here. I will publish selected games part by part. Below is one of critical game between the recent ASIAN Zonal Champion - GM Darwin Lalyo (Philipinnes) against WGM Atousa Pourkashiyan. The Iranian lady won her National Women's Chess Champion in 2008 and also the U12 World Youth Chess Championship in 2000. She became a WGM in 2008. Her game with Laylo was the last to finish in round 1 .

White's outside passed pawn on a file is her main asset but her king is in danger of being caged and fall into a mating nett. 1... Ng2 2. Bf3 Nh4 3. Be4+ Kg7 4. Rb6 f3 5. Rb2 ?? Atousa is in severe time trouble and she has to move fast to add his time on his clock with the 30 seconds increment. However her last move is a blunder which...

her opponent didn't realised 5...Re1 ? Actually black can win with 5... Ng6! Threatening checkmate with ...Nf4++ and white lost in all line for e.g:-
